#54321Tarot – a first step into TarotTube

I’ve been a consumer of TarotTube (that’s the cute name for the tarot space on YouTube) for a few years, and a user of Youtube for many more years. The people I’ve found that I come back to time and again, whenever I’m in the right headspace to engage with tarot content, are often far less polished and shiny than the creators in other niches I’ve been a consumer of (gaming, books, beauty and lifestyle primarily). It was exactly this unpolished quality that kept me coming back, the sense of authenticity and the feeling that it was a group of people that are simply really passionate about a thing. So I’ve decided to throw my voice into the mix.

This will not be my first foray into YouTube in general, I’ve tried in the past to dabble in beauty content, but also in mental health awareness and self-care videos. Neither lasted long out of a sense of self-consciousness, who was I to speak on these things? Someone with no money, no formal training and no discernible media skills. But I’m giving it a try again. I’m holding it lightly, and am keeping my expectations low. If it doesn’t go anywhere or I don’t stick with it, I’m going to give myself grace (I’m pledging that here and now in front of you all), and above all else, I’m just going to try and have fun with it.

I’ve been answering “tag” videos in my tarot journal for years now, so I have a bank of formats to work through, even if the tags themselves are a bit old-hat, I’m not doing it for visibility or engagement right now, I just want to join in!

I’m excited to expand on this space where I nerd-out about tarot (look out for the #TarotGeekTarotNerd video hopefully coming soon!) by diversifying into video content. I’ll be curious to see how it goes from an energy perspective, whether it cost me more or less to film and edit a video than it does to sit down and write a blog post. If you’re a video watcher, I hope you’ll join me as I embark on this new project, and if it’s not your thing I’ll still be here writing my characteristically sporadic blog posts, making tarot art, and sending my (now six-weekly) newsletters. I’m also posting on instagram and patreon if you prefer shorter form or more visual content.

I hope you’re all taking excellent care of yourselves and I’ll speak to you again soon!
